There are major differences between one-phase implants and traditional two-phase implants
Do you want to replace your missing teeth? If so, dental implants are a widely accepted solution that would be good for you too. If we look at it, we find two different implantation methods. One is one-phase implants, which are performed in a single step, the other one the two-phase implants, which are performed in two steps. Which method is more favorable for you that depends on several factors. The most important fact is the condition of your jaw bone. In this article, we will discuss the most important differences between one-phase implants called immediate loading implants, and conventional two-phase implants.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IMPLANTATION PROCESS
No one likes dental treatments, that is why it is important that the treatment be pain-free, gentle, and as short as possible. This is an important expectation on the part of the patients and the sp called one-phase implant perfectly meets this expectation.
There is a significant difference in surgery, i.e. the insertion of implants. Implantation of a one-phase implant is a gentle and fairly simple surgery. However, in the case of two-phase implants, the gum needed to be incised and then sutured back after implantation. The other important difference is that one-phase implantation takes place in a single phase, which means one surgery! In the case of conventional two-phase implants, two surgeries have to be considered, which means more discomfort and longer time for the patient.
THE DURATION OF IMPLANTATION PROCESS
As described above, one-phase implantation occurs in a single phase, so it takes less inconvenience in addition to less time. Since the one-phase implants can be loaded immediately, a long-term temporary denture can be made immediately after implantation. At the same time, in two-phase implantation, there is a so-called ossification and healing period of 3-6 months after the implantation. So, in this case, in addition to the double surgery, significantly longer treatment time has to be expected.
One-phase implantation takes less than 5 days, which is a very short time compared to two-phase implantation, where you have to wait 3-6 months for the dentures to be fixed on the implants. The insertion of immediate loading implants and the completion of long-term temporary dentures are done in the following main steps:
- First time - preparation and implantation
- Second time - frame fitting
- Third time - denture fitting
- Fourth time - installation
- Fifth time - check-up, final adjustments
Imagine that you visit the dental office on Monday morning and leaving on Friday with a perfectly functioning, beautiful set of teeth, which is like having your own teeth back.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DENTAL IMPLANTS
There are a number of differences between the two types of implants beyond those mentioned. For example, an important difference is that a one-phase implant consists of a single piece and can be diverse in both shape and size. Thus, for example, they are longer, shorter, thinner, thicker, but still, they consist of a single piece.
This fact not only makes it cheaper but also makes the implantation process easier too. If the implant needs to be replaced for some reason, it is much easier to do so with a single-piece implant than with a multi-piece two-phase implant.
PRICE DIFFERENCES
The fact that one-phase implants cost less than two-phase implants is not the most important advantage, but it is definitely worth mentioning. This is mainly due to the fact that it consists of a single piece, unlike two-phase implants.
The conventional multi-part implant is priced per element, with the end result that the price of a complete two-phase implant is higher than that of a single-piece one-phase implant.
As mentioned earlier, a two-phase implant consists of several parts. The practice is that for the work with every element has to be paid for separately, which increases the final cost of implant placement. On the other hand, in the case of the single-piece one-phase implant, there are no partial elements and there is no additional expense to be paid for.
DIFFERENCES IN USABILITY
Last but not least, let’s talk about maybe the most important difference between one-phase and two-phase implants. And that’s the usability of implants. While immediate loading implants can be used for significant bone loss, two-phase implants cannot!
It is an unfortunate fact that we need implant dentures most when, due to our age, the quality and quantity of bone needed for secure fixation is no longer the same as it was at a younger age. Fortunately, there is no cause for concern because a one-phase implant is here to help.
One-phase implants are designed to be implanted in almost any location on the jawbone, even when bone density and volume are not optimal. It is clear from the X-rays that the implants can be in a different direction from the vertical. Furthermore, they have a substantially longer threaded portion, so that they can penetrate deeper, thereby making them substantially more stable. As a result, the dentures glued to it are also stable and safe.
In the above article, we briefly summarized the most important differences between one-phase and two-phase implants. Of course, there are other differences, but as we think, what has already been said can be an effective help for those who want to choose between the two implantation methods.
