DENTAL IMPLANTS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Did you know that dental implants have a huge advantage over the traditional method?

Teeth play a much more critical role in the healthy functioning of the human body than many would think. When it comes to the health of our teeth, it must always mean increased attention and care. Neglected teeth mean insufficient chewing ability, which can negatively affect digestion. Furthermore, inflamed gums and teeth can harm other organs of the human body. Teeth that are unsuitable for prosthetic care have to remove. The best solution known today for their replacement is dental implants, especially immediate loading implants. So, let's talk about them.

What is a dental implant?
An implant is a high-purity titanium alloy artificial tooth root that can perfectly replace a natural tooth root. We mention only one of its enormous advantages: the metal tooth root will not inflame, won't cause pain, and lasts forever. And that's just one of many benefits. Today, two different implants and implantation methods are prevalent. One is the conventional two-phase implants, and the other is the one-phase implants, in other words, immediate loading implants. This writing will be mainly about the latter, but anyone interested can read more about two-phase implants here.

What do the words one-phase implants mean?
As its name implies, they implant them in a single phase. Unlike two-phase implants, which take two different steps, 3-6 months can elapse between each time. In the case of immediate loading implants, these dental implants can be implanted right after removing the teeth that are not suitable for dental care! So, the implantation occurs in a single phase, even for a complete denture. The unique feature of a one-phase implant is that it is loadable right after insertion allowing the implantation to occur in a single phase, in one treatment.

What are the key benefits of a one-phase implant?
1.)
Perhaps the most crucial advantage is that the process takes a short time since it is loadable immediately! For example, complete oral rehabilitation means entire lower and upper implantation plus long-term temporary dentures complete in 3-5 days. Not to mention with a double guarantee!

2.) Another essential advantage is that these dental implants and implantation methods may be the solution for those who do not have adequate quality and quantity of dental bone. That is excellent news for the older age group.

3.) The implantation of a one-phase implant is an effortless invasive surgical procedure. One-phase implantation occurs through the gum through a tiny hole drilled in the tooth bone. So, there is no need to incise the gingival and then suture it back as it happens with the two-phase implantation process. That means much more minor inconvenience to patients.

In addition, there are numerous other benefits to one-phase dental implants, which you can read about in more detail here.

What is the implantation PROCESS for a one-phase implant?
1st Session: IMPLANTATION, SAMPLING
Removal of teeth unsuitable for prosthetic care, implantation of the needed number of Immediate Loading Implants, taking Impressions for dentures.
2nd Session: FRAME and DENTURE FITTING
Fitting the metal frames carrying the teeth on the denture(s). Possible Fitting and adjustment of the long-term, temporary denture(s)
3rd Session: DENTURE FITTING, INSTALLATION
Fitting and adjusting the long-term, temporary denture(s).
4th Session: RESERVE DAY, CHECK UP
Backup day in case there is a delay due to some unexpected events.
5th Session: RESERVE DAY, CHECK UP
Backup day in case there is a delay due to some unexpected events.

How and who should I choose if I want a one-phase dental implants-based denture?
Your dentist may be excellent and knowledgeable, but that doesn't necessarily mean an experienced implantologist. That is because it requires special knowledge and skills. Even if you think you have the best implantologist to do the work, you still need to research before making a final decision. Therefore, for one-phase implantation, always consult the appropriate oral surgeon who has the knowledge and practices to perform such implantation perfectly.

Hopefully, we have answered the topic mentioned in the article's title. In our writing, we talked about dental implants, the two most common implants and implantation methods. We have dealt in detail with immediately loadable one-phase implants, mentioning their key features and advantages over two-phase implants. DENTAL IMPLANTS VS. TRADITIONAL PROSTHESES – WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES

There are significant differences between dental implants and traditional prostheses

Effective chewing ability is essential for proper digestion and requires good teeth. Not to mention, your smile is almost as important! As we all know, the health of a tooth is vulnerable; even a single missing tooth can affect your appearance and confidence, hindering your emotional level as well. So, no question, you have to have replaced your missing teeth. You have two different ways, either traditional prosthesis or dental implants. This writing will help you decide which one is the best for you.

Like every field in medicine requires a diagnosis of the patient’s condition; similarly, treatment in the dental implantation begins after a proper diagnosis. It is essential to thoroughly examine the jaw bone by panoramic X-ray before anything happens.

Traditional Prostheses are possible when some natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. It is removable and attached to a pink or gum color plastic base. The denture base is a metal frame, and the dental technician attaches the dentures to it.

On the other hand, dental implants are to support one or more false teeth, or even a bridge is an artificial tooth root placed into the jaw. Generally, this is placed beneath the gums to hold a replacement tooth, bridge, or a complete denture. With one or more missing teeth or teeth due to periodontal disease, injury, or other reasons, dental implants have become a popular choice.

Let’s talk about the main differences between dentures fixed on dental implants and traditional prostheses by comparing their properties:

Aesthetics – In terms of aesthetics, dental implants based dentures look and feel like your own teeth and thus offer distinguished aesthetics compared to traditional prostheses.

Durability – A denture fixed on dental implants is from high-quality and unique titanium alloys, potent, stable, and highly durable. After a proper implantation process, dental implant-supported dentures remain functional for a lifetime. On the other hand, traditional prostheses have a shorter lifespan as they make it from less durable materials, and their attachment to the gums is far from perfect.

Impact on adjacent teeth - In the case of a dental implant-based denture, no adjacent teeth need to be grounded down to hold the new replacement teeth or tooth. In contrast, traditional prostheses need to be attached to the adjacent teeth on either side of the space left for support.

Function – Traditional prostheses are sliding and thus can make chewing and speaking difficult. On the other hand, an implantation-based denture is fixed or comes with a secure fit and does not slip or slide in the mouth. As they firmly support the false teeth, they sufficiently restore dental function in speech and chewing efficiency.

Cost - The cost of a dental implant-based denture varies based on your gums and jaw bone condition. They are significantly costlier than traditional prostheses. Generally speaking, implantation-based prostheses may require additional surgical techniques like bone grafting to ensure enough bone for the implant to be stable. An exception to the latter is immediate loading implants that are even usable in case of significant bone deficiency!

Consequence or Oral Hygiene - In traditional prostheses, supporting natural teeth on both sides must be trimmed slightly to create room for the prosthesis. Consequently, a healthy tooth structure must hold in place the denture. That is not the case with dentures fixed on dental implants. Therefore, they preserve the adjacent teeth and underlying jaw bone.

As we learned from the above article, there is a significant difference between dental implants and traditional prostheses in many ways. This knowledge can be helpful for those who have to choose between the two solutions. For the long-term, the success rate of dental implants is much higher than the traditional prosthesis.

DENTAL IMPLANTS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

The most frequently asked questions and answers regarding dental implants

Who can I turn to if I think dental implants are the solution for me?

When we talk about dental implants and implantation, the most obvious is to ask your own dentist who you trust the most and who probably knows you well. After that is the physician’s responsibility to direct you to the right place. After you consult with the recommended dental implant specialist, it is up to you to decide whether or not to continue with this dentist.

You need to know about your doctor’s duties and responsibilities
The implantologist should fully examine your teeth to get a clear picture of the tooth and gum condition and the availability of adequate bone for the implants. The dentist must explain all this in plain English and answer any questions you may have, according to their best knowledge about dental implants and dental implantation.

How can you decide if a dentist is suitable for dental implantation?
Dentists, in general, are able to fully handle the dental problems that occur, but they may not be able to handle dental implants. This is because dental implantation requires special knowledge and practice. Therefore, you should ask specifically whether your dentist is capable of doing this kind of treatment. If the answer is yes, you should also ask how much experience they have in this field.

What do I need to know before getting dental implants?
First of all, your implantologist needs to explain what kind of implants and what kind of implantation methods are available and especially which one is suitable and recommended for you. For your information, there are two common implantation methods: one-phase immediate loading implants and two-phase conventional implants and implantation methods. You can learn more about the major differences between the two implantation types that can be found on this page.

Is it true that dental implantation based dentures can be ready in just 3-5 days?
Yes, it is true. Using the earlier mentioned one-phase, Immediate Loading implants and implantation method, 95% of the patients can have their dentures in just 3-5 days. This solution not only has the advantage of quickness but can be used for those who have a bone deficiency. This is not typical of conventional two-phase implants and implantation.

Another huge advantage is that it is only one process and so, not necessary the gum incision again when getting the permanent denture(s). The one-phase implant is simply screwed through the gums without incision after the implantologist drilled a hole in the jaw bone. The thread required for screwing is cut into the bone by the implant itself, so it is extremely strong and can hold the denture glued to it securely.
Are there dentists who do both preserving dentistry and dental implantation?

Of course, they exist. However, we are of the opinion that you should rather choose dentistry that specializes specifically in one-phase immediate loading implants. Just like we go to a brand store because we rightly assume that we get a high quality, original product there. Those who, like us, specialize exclusively in one-phase implants, inherently have more knowledge, more practice, than those for whom implantation is not their main profile.
