ARE YOU EXPERIENCING BAD BREATH?


What can cause bad breath, how to prevent it, what the treatments are?


Bad breath is one of the most unpleasant oral hygiene problems since the vast majority of cases who have unpleasant mouth odors, they are unaware of it! Moreover, in such a case, one feels embarrassed to speak up for such a thing, even for a family member.

Bad breath odor is a result of poor oral hygiene habits. In medical terminology, it is known as halitosis. The tongue and the gum harbor lots of bacteria due to unhealthy eating habits. Infections also occur in the mouth due to unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking alcohol.

Bad breath is also caused by dry mouth, systemic diseases like kidney, liver, and lung diseases, diabetes, fasting, low-carbohydrate foods, Inflammation or infections in the nose, throat or sinuses and so on. It can even be caused due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) due to the reflux of stomach acids. Certain medications reduce saliva and release chemicals in the breath. It can be a warning sign of gum diseases as well.

People believe that Bad breath comes from the stomach. Adults are of the belief that if they are facing bad mouth odor issues, their children would also face it. People are of the strong opinion that dental hygiene can be maintained by brushing twice a day and rinsing with a mouthwash will also control the bad breath.

It’s not necessary to worry so much about your bad breath. Developing a mouth odor is normal and is caused by dental plaque, food debris, and the development of gingivitis. It can be assessed by keeping your hand over the nose and hand and breath or consider visiting a dental professional. However, it’s not true that Bad breath comes from the stomach and there is no connection of it being hereditary, in fact, it can be prevented.

·      Make sure you have no bad teeth in your mouth.
·      Keep your gums healthy and non-inflammatory.
·      Use a mouthwash which is made to kill the bad breath germs and odor-causing components in certain foods.
·      Increase the intake of water and limit caffeinated, alcoholic, sugary and acidic juices and drinks.
·      Flossing on a daily basis can clean the tight spaces beneath the gum lines where the toothbrush sometimes misses reaching.
·      Regular dental check-ups and professional cleaning twice a year can also help maintain dental hygiene.
·      The polyphenols present in Green Tea as well can freshen up your breath.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is very much essential from an infant to an adult. If you are wearing braces and facing bad breath issues, then it is due to the food getting stuck in them. In such a case, you must consult an orthodontist. Else bad breath can be treated easily if taken proper care of the teeth, visit your dentist regularly and with regular flossing and brushing.
